What EZBRAID Is Made Of — and What the Tests Say

What the fiber is, what the vinegar soak is really for, and how we're responding to the 2026 testing

Choosing braiding hair today is no longer just about style. People want to know what a product is actually made of before it sits against the scalp and skin for weeks at a time. This post lays out what EZBRAID's fiber is, why so much conventional braiding hair is sold with a wash-first instruction, what Consumer Reports reported in 2026, and what we're doing in response.

What Makes EZBRAID Different

EZBRAID approaches materials from the very beginning of product design: choose the fiber and finish first, so the usual after-the-fact fixes aren't part of the routine.

1. The Fiber — PET and PP, Not Modacrylic

EZBRAID is made primarily from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and PP (polypropylene) — not the modacrylic used in much conventional braiding hair, and with no acrylonitrile. These materials are widely used in food-contact, medical, and hygiene products, where consistent contact with the human body is expected.

The raw material is only part of the picture; how it is processed matters too. EZBRAID is PVC-free, uses no acrylonitrile, and is made without added hair dye.

2. Antibacterial Fiber — SPETRA Technology

EZBRAID uses Spetra fiber, which carries an antibacterial zinc-sulfide layer built into the fiber to help resist odor-causing bacteria and keep wear comfortable.

Unlike surface-treated fibers, the antibacterial components in Spetra fiber are integrated into the fiber structure. This design helps maintain antibacterial performance even after repeated washing and long-term wear, while minimizing the risk of chemical migration.

For users, this means reduced odor, less bacterial buildup, and a more comfortable, itch-free experience.

3. What the Testing Shows — and What Comes Next

In February 2026, Consumer Reports reported detectable heavy metals in braiding-hair products across the category, including in EZBRAID. The company's position, on the record: “We do not intentionally add lead, arsenic, cadmium, or other heavy metals.” EZBRAID is expanding independent U.S. third-party testing, and that work is in progress.

We would rather share where things stand than make a blanket claim. As independent U.S. testing is completed, we will report what it finds.

4. Designed for Real Use

EZBRAID’s design also delivers everyday benefits:

  • Pre-Stretched for faster and easier installation
  • Itch-Free construction to reduce scalp irritation
  • No-Need-Pre-Washed design for immediate use
  • PVC-free, no acrylonitrile, no vinyl chloride in the fiber
  • Improved handling and hygiene for professional braiders

Conclusion

EZBRAID’s approach is the result of deliberate choices at every stage — from raw materials and processing to the built-in antibacterial fiber and the independent testing now underway. The result is braiding hair designed not only to look good, but to feel comfortable throughout wear — and a company that would rather tell you what it’s made of, and what the tests say, than lean on a slogan.
