Our complete lab panel

Every result. Published in full.

Most braiding-hair brands show you one flattering test. We publish our whole third-party panel — the strong results and the ones still in progress — and challenge the category to do the same. Below is every independent number we have, with its source.

Why this page exists

The data problem, fixed in public

The braiding-hair aisle has a data problem, not just a chemistry problem. Different labs test for different things, and most brands quote only the result that helps them. We think the honest move is to put every panel in one place — so braiders, chemists, and editors can judge EZBRAID on the evidence, not on an adjective. Three independent sources are below, each with what it did and did not test.

Source 1 — peer-reviewed

Silent Spring Institute (2026)

In a 2026 Silent Spring Institute study of 43 hair-extension products (Franklin et al., Environment & Health), the Innocence Spetra EZBRAID Professional was one of only two products in which researchers detected no California Proposition 65 carcinogens or organotin compounds, and its clean-label claim was confirmed by testing.

Scope, stated plainly: this study screened for Prop 65 carcinogens and reproductive toxicants, a breast-carcinogen list, and organotins. It did not test for VOCs or heavy metals — so it speaks to those substances only, not to everything. "One of only two," never "the only."

Source 2 — our commissioned test

FITI Testing & Research Institute

We commissioned the FITI Testing & Research Institute to test EZBRAID fiber. Heavy metals, VCM (vinyl chloride monomer), benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde were each reported as not detected.

This is a test we paid for, on our fiber — we present it as exactly that, our own commissioned report, not as an independent editorial finding. It is shown here next to Consumer Reports' result on the same substances so you can see both.

Source 3 — we don't hide this one

Consumer Reports (February 2026)

Consumer Reports' braiding-hair investigation tested our Innocence Professional product and detected VOCs — about 309 µg/kg, including benzene, toluene, and methylene chloride — along with trace heavy metals. Our CEO is quoted in CR's response. We publish that result here, in full, instead of around it.

Two things are true at once, and we'd rather you see both: a different lab (Silent Spring) found our product clean on Prop 65 carcinogens and organotins, and our own commissioned FITI test reported those VOCs as not detected — while Consumer Reports' panel did detect VOCs. Different labs, different methods, different days. That gap is exactly why a single "clean" badge means little, and why we publish the whole panel.

The honest summary: clean for Prop 65 carcinogens and organotins (Silent Spring); VOCs and trace metals detected by Consumer Reports. We are working on and will publish further VOC testing rather than explain this away.

The itch-free basis

Our own antibacterial fiber

Patent

EZBRAID is built on antibacterial SPETRA fiber, protected by US Patent No. 9,233,392. The antibacterial treatment is engineered into the filament — the documented basis for reduced first-week itch, distinct from any safety claim above.

Materials

PVC-free; made with PP (polypropylene) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate), materials widely used in consumer, medical, and food-contact applications.

Our numbers, all of them

We publish everything. We're asking the category to do the same.

If a brand will only show you one test, ask what the others said. Here are ours — read the safety guide for the plain-language version, or explore the range.

This page summarizes third-party and commissioned test results on specific samples and production lots. Results can vary by lot and testing methodology, and each test covers only the substances it screened for, as noted above. Nothing here is a claim that the product is "non-toxic," "chemical-free," or free of all substances. Last reviewed: 2026-06-08.
